TDA dramatic moment unfolded in the Nigerian Senate when Senator Smart Adeyemi, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), openly confronted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his National Assembly colleagues over the worsening insecurity and economic hardship in the country.
Speaking with visible emotion, Adeyemi declared that the nation’s security system had “collapsed”.
He warned that every part of Nigeria was now under threat.
He insisted that lawmakers could no longer remain silent while citizens lived in fear and poverty.
“Tinubu should know that it has gotten to a time that we that are supporters of the APC can no longer keep quiet.
“Our security system has collapsed… every part of this country is threatened.
“We should shut down the National Assembly if we cannot save this country….
“There’s no food, people are in poverty,” Adeyemi said, almost moved to tears.
A Call for Urgent Action
Adeyemi urged the President to “rise to the occasion” and seek foreign support to bolster Nigeria’s failing security architecture.
He argued that national pride should not prevent the government from requesting international assistance.
The lawmaker stressed that “ego” and “superiority” must be set aside to save lives.
He lamented that Nigerians could no longer travel safely across the country, recalling a time when journeys from Lagos to Maiduguri were free of harassment.
Today, he said, even short trips such as Abuja to Kaduna have become perilous.
“Every part of this country is threatened. From the north to the south, nobody is safe.
“Nobody can travel 50 kilometers in our nation,” Adeyemi warned.

National Assembly Under Scrutiny
The senator went further, suggesting that the National Assembly should be shut down if lawmakers cannot deliver meaningful solutions.
He argued that continuing legislative business while Nigerians are dying of hunger and insecurity would be hypocritical.
“Our country is bleeding. People are in poverty. There’s no food. People are hungry.
“Insecurity is threatening us. We cannot pretend. It’s better we are not here,” he declared.

Broader Implications
Adeyemi’s outburst reflects growing frustration within the ruling party itself.
Even APC loyalists are now openly criticizing the government’s handling of insecurity and economic hardship.
His remarks underscore the urgency of reform and the pressure on President Tinubu to act decisively.
The senator’s passionate intervention has sparked debate across political circles and social media.
Many Nigerians are praising his courage to speak truth to power.
Others see it as a wake-up call for the government to prioritize security and food security before the situation deteriorates further.
This confrontation highlights the deepening crisis of confidence in Nigeria’s leadership and institutions, as citizens and lawmakers alike demand urgent action to restore safety, stability, and hope.
