TDThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned Nigerians to beware of fake campaign posters circulating on social media bearing the image of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
In a press statement signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, mnipr, National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, the party described the posters as fraudulent and misleading.
According to the PDP, the posters not only feature Jonathan’s photograph—sometimes paired with other notable Nigerians as running mates—but also falsely associate him with various political parties whose logos appear on them.
The party clarified that Jonathan remains a registered member of the PDP under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, having personally completed his digital membership registration in his ward.
“This clarification has become necessary in view of the provisions of the extant Electoral Act, under which double registration is not only prohibited but also punishable,” the statement read.
The PDP warned that mischief makers may attempt to input Jonathan’s details, along with those of other prominent politicians, into the databases of different political parties.
The party therefore urged the public and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discountenance any such fraudulent activity.
It stressed that Jonathan has not declared for any party other than the PDP.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to transparency and lawfulness in the electoral process.
