TDThe Presidency has officially confirmed the resignation of two senior cabinet members: Mr. Wale Edun, former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Mr. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, former Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga made the clarification on Wednesday.
Onanuga stated, however, that both men voluntarily stepped down, dispelling speculation that they were removed from office.
Mr. Edun, a seasoned economist and investment banker, tendered his resignation on his 70th birthday, citing health reasons.
In his letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve, writing:
“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Under your leadership, Nigeria has emerged stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected.
“I wish you and the administration every success in the future.”
Onanuga further stated that before the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation formally announced his departure, Edun paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Villa.
He reportedly held an hour-long discussion with the President before departing to focus on private business interests.
His exit marks the end of a long career in public service, which included serving as Lagos State Commissioner for Finance between 1999 and 2004 under then-Governor Tinubu.
He also held a distinguished career at the World Bank and in Nigeria’s financial sector, where he co-founded Stanbic IBTC and later established Chapelhill Denham Group.

Mr. Dangiwa, an architect by training, also resigned, thanking President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in the Federal Executive Council.
He previously served as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank from 2015 to 2022 and as Secretary to the Katsina State Government.
Appointed in August 2023, Dangiwa played a role in shaping housing and urban development policy during his tenure.
Tinubu Accepts Resignations
President Tinubu has expressed appreciation to both men for their dedicated service and significant contributions to the administration’s economic reform programme.
He wished them continued success in their future endeavours.
He noted that their work had laid important foundations for Nigeria’s fiscal and housing reforms.
In response to these resignations, Tinubu has appointed Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance.
The President charged him to consolidate ongoing reforms and advance fiscal and economic objectives with renewed focus, discipline, and innovation.
For the Housing Ministry, the President will forward the nomination of Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, also from Katsina, to the Senate for confirmation.
These changes mark a pivotal moment in the administration’s economic and housing agenda, as new leadership steps in to continue the work of reform and development.
