TDThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally announced the resumption of the third and final phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
This crucial phase will begin on Monday, May 11, 2026, and conclude on Friday, July 10, 2026, marking the last opportunity for Nigerians to register ahead of the next general elections.
INEC explained that the second phase of the CVR, which ended on April 17, 2026, was temporarily suspended to allow the Commission to conduct a thorough clean-up of the voters’ register.
This clean-up followed the statutory publication of the register for claims and objections, ensuring that only eligible voters remain on the roll.
Eligibility and Services Available
The Commission has urged all citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who missed earlier phases, to take advantage of this final window to register.
In addition to new registrations, the CVR exercise will also cater to:
- Transfers of registration for voters who have relocated,
- Replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs),
- Correction of biodata errors for existing registrants.
These services can be accessed either through INEC’s dedicated online portal or by visiting INEC offices at the state and local government levels nationwide.
Register Display for Public Scrutiny
As part of its statutory obligations, INEC will display the updated Register of Voters for public scrutiny between Thursday, July 23 and Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
This exercise provides Nigerians with the opportunity to examine the register, raise objections, and ensure that the list is accurate, complete, and credible.
INEC’s Commitment
INEC has reassured Nigerians that all logistical and technical arrangements have been finalized to guarantee a smooth and transparent registration process.
The Commission emphasized that voter registration is not just a procedural step but a cornerstone of democratic participation, urging citizens to play their part in strengthening Nigeria’s electoral system.
The press statement was signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, who reiterated the Commission’s appeal for mass participation.
This announcement signals the final opportunity for Nigerians to secure their place in the electoral process.
With the CVR closing on July 10, 2026, INEC has made it clear that the responsibility now lies with citizens to ensure they are registered, equipped with valid PVCs, and ready to exercise their democratic rights.
