TDGunmen have reportedly abducted the younger sister of former Minister of Power and 2027 Oyo State governorship aspirant, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her twin children in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The victims were kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday at the Elewura area of Challenge, Ibadan, according to information made available by one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro.
Confirming the incident, Awogboro said the former minister’s younger sister and her twin children, identified as Peter and Paul, were taken away by unknown gunmen during the attack.
“Adelabu’s younger sister, together with her twin (Peter and Paul), were kidnapped this morning (Wednesday) by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge, Ibadan,” Awogboro stated.
Details surrounding the circumstances of the abduction remained sketchy as of the time of filing this report. It was not immediately clear whether the kidnappers had established contact with the family or made any ransom demands.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and political associates of the former minister, coming amid growing worries over insecurity and kidnapping activities in parts of the country.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the abduction. However, sources indicated that efforts were underway to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe release of the victims.
The kidnapping of relatives of prominent public figures has become an increasing concern in Nigeria, with criminal groups often targeting family members for ransom payments.
Adelabu, a prominent politician in Oyo State and former Minister of Power, has remained influential within the ruling All Progressives Congress and is widely regarded as a potential contender in the state’s 2027 governorship election.
Residents of the Challenge area expressed shock over the incident, calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
As of press time, neither the Oyo State Police Command nor other security authorities had released further details regarding the abduction. Family members and supporters of the former minister are hoping for the swift rescue of the victims and the arrest of those responsible.
