TDOperatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a suspected serial killer, Kelechi Wofuru, and members of his gang for alleged involvement in kidnapping and gruesome killings, involving human organs trafficking, in the state.

The arrest followed a coordinated operation involving security agencies and support from the SafeCity Volunteer Foundation, led by activist Harrison Gwamnishu.

Authorities say the suspect was apprehended after intelligence gathering and sustained tracking of his activities.

According to reports, Wofuru and his gang allegedly targeted commercial drivers and passengers along the Port Harcourt–Elele–Isiokpo axis.

They lure the unsuspecting victims to isolated areas, particularly around Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Grisly Discoveries and Victim Accounts on Kelechi Wofuru

Investigators disclosed that the suspect confessed to multiple killings, with some victims reportedly murdered and mutilated.

He was said to have led security operatives to a forest location where the body of a recently missing driver was recovered.

The victim, identified as a commercial bus driver, had earlier been declared missing by family members.

The declaration prompted a search that eventually contributed to the suspect’s capture.

Authorities believe more victims may be linked to the gang, with several bodies still unaccounted for.

Gwamnishu, who documented parts of the investigation, urged families of missing persons to contact the police for possible identification and further inquiries.

According to him, Wofuru and his gang “kill their victims and take their body parts”.

He urged those, especially drivers operating within Port Harcourt and surrounding routes, to approach the nearest police station.

Pattern of Kidnapping by Kelechi Wofuru & Gangs Along Notorious Routes

Security experts note that the Elele, Isiokpo, and Ubima corridor has long been associated with criminal activity, including kidnapping and violent attacks on motorists.

Historical accounts indicate that travelers along these routes have frequently been ambushed, abducted, and, in some cases, killed.

Kidnapping remains one of the most prevalent crimes in Rivers State.

Kidnappers often target both locals and commuters for ransom or other criminal purposes.

Recent police operations in the state have led to multiple arrests of kidnapping syndicates.

They underscore ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and improve public safety.

Police and Community Collaboration

Authorities credited the success of the latest operation to collaboration between law enforcement and community-based intelligence networks.

The Commissioner of Police, alongside the Special Intelligence and Operations Unit, was commended for coordinating the effort.

The SafeCity team, led by Adebayo Steve, also played a critical role by supporting investigations and assisting victims’ families throughout the process.

Police officials reiterated their commitment to dismantling criminal networks operating within the state.

They warned that ongoing investigations would aim to uncover additional accomplices linked to the syndicate.

Call for Vigilance and Public Cooperation

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, particularly along high-risk routes.

The police emphasized the importance of timely information in preventing crimes and rescuing victims.

The latest arrest highlights the persistence of violent crime in parts of Rivers State.

It also highlights the increasing reliance on joint efforts between citizens and security agencies to tackle insecurity.

Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations continue, with assurances that all those involved will be brought to justice.
