TDA video purportedly showing retired Major General Rabe Abubakar and his wife in captivity has surfaced online, days after the couple was abducted by armed bandits along the Matazu axis of Katsina State.
The footage, which began circulating on social media on Saturday, has intensified public concern over the fate of the former Director of Defence Information and his spouse.
Authorities have not officially verified the authenticity of the video as of the time of filing this report.
Major General Abubakar and his wife were reportedly kidnapped on May 30 while travelling through Matazu Local Government Area.
According to multiple reports, heavily armed gunmen intercepted their vehicle, opened fire, and whisked the couple away to an unknown location.
Their driver escaped despite sustaining gunshot injuries during the attack.
Security sources said the retired officer was travelling with his wife when the attackers ambushed their vehicle along the Katsina–Matazu road.
The abandoned vehicle, reportedly riddled with bullet holes, was later recovered by security personnel.
The Katsina State Police Command previously confirmed the incident, stating that suspected armed bandits intercepted the vehicle and abducted two occupants while the driver managed to flee.
Following the attack, security agencies launched search-and-rescue operations aimed at securing the safe release of the victims.
The abduction has renewed concerns about insecurity in Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
Kidnappings for ransom and attacks on travellers have remained a major security challenge in the region despite ongoing military operations.
As of press time, there has been no official statement from security agencies regarding the newly emerged video or any contact with the kidnappers.
Rescue efforts are reportedly ongoing.
