TDIn a dramatic confrontation that highlights the growing effectiveness of regional security outfits, operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) have rescued eight kidnapped residents following a fierce gun battle with their abductors.
The State Commander of Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed the development while addressing journalists.
He confirmed that all victims were freed without the payment of any ransom.
The detail underscores the Corps’ determination to break the cycle of ransom-driven abductions in the state.
The Abduction and Rescue
According to Adeleye, some of the victims were abducted from the Ilado community in Akure North Local Government Area, where kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₦30 million.
The Amotekun operatives, acting on intelligence, tracked the kidnappers and launched a rescue mission that quickly escalated into a gun battle.
After a tense exchange of fire, the kidnappers were overpowered, forcing them to abandon their captives.
Among those rescued was Fagbonmire Durojaiye, a pastor and teacher with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
Durojaiye’s abduction had sent shockwaves through the community.

No Ransom Paid Plus Wider Impact
Adeleye emphasized that none of the victims’ families paid any ransom before their release.
He reiterated Amotekun’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State.
He stressed that the Corps would continue to confront criminal elements head-on.
The successful operation has been widely praised as another demonstration of Amotekun’s growing role in combating insecurity in the Southwest.
Since its establishment in 2020, the Corps has increasingly filled critical gaps in Nigeria’s overstretched federal security architecture, particularly in tackling kidnapping, banditry, and armed robbery.
Community leaders and residents have lauded the swift response.
They noted that such interventions restore confidence in local security and send a strong message to criminal networks that Ondo State is not a safe haven.
Regional Security Context
This incident underscores the rising importance of regional security outfits like Amotekun in complementing federal forces.
Kidnapping and banditry pose persistent threats across Nigeria.
However, the Corps’ ability to mobilize quickly, leverage local intelligence, and directly engage criminals has become a vital reassurance for communities.
Observers note that the success of Amotekun also strengthens calls for more localized policing structures.
Meanwhile, communities continue to demand security solutions tailored to their unique challenges.
Ondo Amotekun’s latest victory is not just a rescue mission.
It is a statement of resilience, vigilance, and the determination of local forces to reclaim communities from the grip of insecurity.
