TDDuring the heated 2021 Anambra governorship election debate, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, now Governor of Anambra State and one of the traducers of former Governor Peter Obi today, openly acknowledged the achievements of Peter Obi as governor on camera.
Soludo, speaking on Obi’s record in a video, highlighted how Obi faithfully implemented the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) manifesto and delivered measurable results for the state.
Soludo stated: “Peter Obi, by the way, implemented the APGA manifesto and did well, because he referenced Peter Obi.
“Peter Obi relatively did well, he did the roles as an APGA governor, implementing APGA manifesto.”
He went further to cite data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), underscoring Obi’s impact on Anambra’s economy and social indicators:
- Unemployment: Anambra recorded the lowest unemployment rate in Nigeria at 13%.
- Poverty Reduction: Poverty levels dropped dramatically from 53% under Obi’s early tenure to 14.78% as of the previous year.
- Underemployment: The state achieved the lowest underemployment rate nationwide at 17%.

Soludo Publicly Praised Obi’s Stewardship
Soludo emphasized that these figures were not state generated but officially published by the NBS, lending credibility to Obi’s governance record.
The remarks, captured during the debate, remain a striking moment in Nigeria’s political discourse.
Soludo—himself a candidate at the time—publicly praised Obi’s stewardship of Anambra.

“Peter Obi, by the way, implemented the APGA manifesto and did well, because he referenced Peter Obi.
“Peter Obi relatively did well, he did the roles as an APGA governor, implementing APGA manifesto.
“And you’re saying, oh, things like the economy.
“Let me tell you, for the records, Anambra state has the lowest unemployment of any state in Nigeria at 13%, National Bureau of Statistics, not Anambra state numbers.
“Anambra state has poverty rate decline from 53% under Peter Obi to 14.78% as at last year, National Bureau of Statistics.
“Not our own numbers. Anambra state has the lowest underemployment rate at 17% of any state in Nigeria under Peter Obi, National Bureau of Statistics, not Anambra state numbers.”
It is, therefore, shocking to observers how the same Soludo goes around currently vilifying Peter Obi, who he already described with the glowing accolades found in the attached video.
“Politics is a bastard!” remarked one analyst.
