TD Abuja, FCT — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, a body that has been in existence for 25 years.

This was contained in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy.

The presidency announced that henceforth, all matters relating to the committee’s activities will be coordinated by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).

The PIC was originally established in 2000 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Its mandate was to oversee the privatisation, sale, and lease of Federal Government landed assets under the monetisation policy introduced at the time.

The committee was chaired by the then Minister of Housing, with representatives drawn from the Ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health, Agriculture, and the Nigeria Police Force.

Professor P.T. Ahire, then a Deputy Director in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, served as its pioneer secretary.

In March 2001, the Federal Executive Council approved a Panel of Inquiry to produce a White Paper to guide the committee’s work.

The panel operated for nearly two years before submitting its report.

However, over time, the PIC’s activities reportedly expanded beyond its original scope, leading to numerous litigations across the country.

The presidency explained that after careful review, the government concluded that the committee’s continued existence was “no longer justified.”

As a result, President Tinubu directed that the PIC be dissolved effective November 5, 2025, with its secretary, B.S. Dutsin-Ma, instructed to cease acting on behalf of the committee or the Federal Government in related matters.

The dissolution marks a significant shift in the management of federal assets, with the Attorney General now tasked with ensuring proper oversight and coordination of matters previously handled by the PIC.

The move could reshape Nigeria’s approach to asset management, particularly in streamlining oversight and reducing litigation risks.
