TDSenator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has dismissed as false allegation that she was dragged before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over an alleged ₦100 million kickback linked to a purported fake contract.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the lawmaker described the report as entirely baseless, questioning both its credibility and timing.
She stated unequivocally that she has never been invited, queried, or contacted by the ICPC regarding the allegation or any related matter.
“At no time has the Commission written to me or sought any explanation regarding any allegation whatsoever,” she said.
She also rejected any association with contract-related misconduct.
Kingibe further clarified that, as a senator, she does not have the authority to award contracts, including those tied to constituency projects.
According to her, such projects are handled by relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in accordance with established government procedures.
She argued that attempts to link her to contract awards either reflect a misunderstanding of governance structures or a deliberate effort to misinform the public.
The senator also raised concerns about the timing of the publication.
She noted that it surfaced shortly after her appearance on ARISE Television, where she spoke critically about the state of the nation and held the government accountable.
Describing the development as part of a broader pattern, Kingibe alleged that outspoken public officials are increasingly subjected to intimidation and character attacks.
“It is becoming increasingly evident that those who choose to speak truth to power must now contend not only with resistance but also with calculated attempts at intimidation and character assassination,” she stated.
Despite the controversy, the FCT senator reaffirmed her commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible governance, insisting that she would not be silenced.
Kingibe added that she expects further attacks but remains undeterred, emphasizing that Nigerians deserve leaders who speak boldly and uphold the truth.
