TDA traditional ruler in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has been taken into custody as part of ongoing investigations into the recent abduction of pupils, students and teachers in the area.
Sources familiar with the investigation alleged that the monarch, Oba Tajudeen Abioye, the Eleshi Ele of Esiele, was arrested over claims linking him to individuals suspected of involvement in the school abduction that affected communities around Ahoro-Esiele, Yawota and neighbouring settlements.
The development comes weeks after armed kidnappers invaded schools in Oriire Local Government Area and abducted dozens of schoolchildren and education workers.
The incident had generated widespread concern across Oyo State and beyond.
According to sources, security operatives are exploring multiple lines of inquiry, including allegations of local collaboration, intelligence leaks and logistical support that may have facilitated the attack.
The monarch’s reported arrest is said to be part of broader efforts to identify all those connected to the incident and establish the full circumstances surrounding the abduction.
Investigators are also reportedly examining communications records, movements and possible links between suspects already in custody and other individuals considered relevant to the ongoing probe.
News of the alleged arrest has elicited mixed reactions among residents of Oriire Local Government Area, many of whom are still grappling with the aftermath of the abduction.

While some community members expressed surprise at the development, others noted that the monarch had previously spoken publicly about the tragedy and advocated efforts to secure the release of the victims.
Community leaders and stakeholders have called for a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation.
They stressed the importance of due process and urged the public to refrain from drawing conclusions before the facts are fully established.
The school abduction remains one of the most troubling security incidents recorded in Oyo State this year.
The attack attracted condemnation from parents, education stakeholders, civil society organisations and political leaders.
It also renewed concerns over security in rural communities.
Sources further disclosed that several individuals believed to be connected to the incident have already been apprehended, with investigations continuing to identify and arrest other suspected collaborators.
Police authorities have issued official statement confirming the specific allegations against Oba Tajudeen Abioye.
Efforts to obtain comments from the palace and individuals close to the monarch were unsuccessful.
It should be noted that the allegations remain under investigation, and no court of law has found the monarch guilty of any offence.
