The NNPC Foundation, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of NNPC Ltd., has commissioned and handed over a fully installed 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi.

The intervention, unveiled at the hospital’s permanent site, marks a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure in the South-East.

It will provide advanced diagnostic imaging services to millions across Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Delta States.

Details of the Intervention

  • Equipment: 1.5 Tesla MRI Machine.
  • Supporting Infrastructure: RF shielding systems, chillers, backup UPS, electrical installations, imaging accessories, ventilation, CCTV, oxygen monitoring, intercom facilities, and patient comfort technologies.
  • Impact: Reduced waiting times, lower costs, and elimination of long-distance travel for advanced diagnostic services.

  • Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari (GCEO, NNPC Ltd.) was represented by Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, MD of NNPC Foundation at the event.

Arukwe described the project as a strategic investment in healthcare access and diagnostic precision.

She aligned the project with NNPC’s vision of building sustainable systems and impactful national institutions.

  • Prof. Charles Soludo (Governor of Anambra State) was also represented at the event by Dr. Afam Obidike, Commissioner for Health.
  • He commended the intervention, noting its potential to enhance safe and precise diagnosis and treatment across the region.
  • Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe (EVP, Business Services, NNPC Ltd.), represented by Engr. Isokariari Telema, reiterated NNPC’s commitment to responsive and equitable social investments.

Telema highlighted the company’s four-decade track record in supporting infrastructure, education, and social amenities.

  • Prof. Joseph Ugboaja, CMD NAUTH, Praised NNPC for recognizing healthcare’s strategic importance.

He assured that the hospital will maximize the facility for public benefit.
