TDFormer Director of Mobilization for the Obidient Movement, Morris Monye, has issued a heartfelt apology to members of the movement and its leader, Peter Obi, after his earlier resignation stirred controversy and disappointment among supporters.
In an open letter titled “Apology to the Obidient Movement”, Monye admitted that his resignation was written in a moment of “frustration and immaturity.”
He acknowledged that his words had “subtly and unnecessarily dragged Peter Obi”.
He described the act as “childish” and beneath the standard expected of a leader within the movement.
“I take full responsibility. No one forced me to write it. No one edited it. It came from me, and it was a mistake,” Monye wrote.
He added that deleting the letter did not erase the damage or loss of trust.
He extended his apology directly to Obi, saying:
“To Peter Obi himself (fondly called PO): Sir, I am sincerely sorry.
“My words were not a true reflection of the values of sacrifice, accountability, and constructive criticism that you preach.
“I failed in that moment.”
Monye also addressed the wider Obidient Movement, praising members as “the real heroes” who have remained steadfast in their pursuit of a better Nigeria.
He emphasized that his apology was not motivated by a desire for position but by a commitment to accountability and rebuilding trust.
Background: Monye’s Resignation
Monye’s resignation letter, released months earlier, cited frustrations over unmet goals, poor electoral performance, and personal sacrifices.
He revealed that he had spent about ₦40 million of personal funds on mobilization efforts, including grassroots structures, PVC awareness drives, and campaign support.
He lamented the lack of communication from Obi and the absence of funding for the Directorate of Mobilization.
Despite his contributions, Monye declared at the time that he no longer wished to be at the forefront.
He noted the toll the role had taken on his family and businesses.
His resignation was widely circulated online and interpreted by many as a public crack within the movement.

Attempt at Reconciliation
In his apology, Monye stressed that leadership is not only about success but also about owning mistakes.
He pledged to rebuild trust “through consistent actions, not just words,” while acknowledging that forgiveness may take time.
“Whether you accept my apology or not, I respect your feelings and your right to hold me accountable.
“The love I have for a better Nigeria has not changed,” he concluded.
What Next for Monye and Obidients?
It remains to be seen whether the Obidient Movement will accept Monye’s apology and recall him to active leadership.
However, his public contrition marks a significant attempt at reconciliation in one of Nigeria’s most vibrant political movements, driven largely by youth and grassroots activism.
Below is the text of Morris Monye’s resignation post from November 13, 2025):
RESIGNATION AS DIRECTOR OF MOBILIZATION, OBIDIENT MOVEMENT & STRUCTURE
Today I stepped down as Director of Mobilization of the Obedient Movement.
ITS IMPORTANT YOU READ TO THE END SO NOTHING IS MISCONSTRUED.
Almost a year down the line, most of our short term, medium term and long term plans have not been met.
I won’t be part of optics and no work. The poor showing at the Anambra election has also made my position untenable.
I and my businesses have also been harassed non-stop by sympathizers and instruments of this government. It’s a role that puts a target on your back.
I have had to have kept quiet so as not to discourage anyone or be made not to look like a whiner. But it’s taken its toll on me and my family.
They can’t understand any of this really.I have spent approximately N40m of personal funds (My own money) on donating for Obidient events, mobilization travels across the country, funding committees, evangelizing about the movement with calls for mobilization on radio airways in the rural areas, support local structures on ground.
It goes on and on and on. The expenses never ever stops (and they are mostly unplanned and sudden).
All were self raised. By myself. From me. Through me. Let someone else carry that mantle.
Dr. Tanko is privy to some of these. I have transaction receipts of almost every activity done.
No money was given to the Directorate of Mobilization. There’s no bank account even for the directorate.
In fact, Mr. Peter Obi has never asked what we are doing in mobilization. Nothing of such. No communication. Nothing.
I spent those personal monies because I believe in the movement as a vehicle for a new Nigeria. I also don’t expect any repayment back from anyone.
I have been blessed in life with a small fortune. I’m content and a very simple young man. Those who know me personally know this.
As Director:
- Helped spearhead the registration of Obidients online in conjunction with the IT directorate…
- I helped spearhead the activation of dormant support groups alongside Dr. Tanko…
- I helped structure the movement into 6 regional bodies…
- I contacted and met all the leaders in each state…
- Obidient LG offices in every state…
- I created LG structures…
- I created a Research team for the Obidient Movement…
- I created the Obidient Movement Facebook page…
- We kickstarted the Obidient NextGen…
- Supported the Delta state Obidient Congress
- Singlehandedly raised N2million… for the Anambra Gubernatorial Candidate’s campaign…
- PVC awareness drive…
- Had engagements with tech experts in the UK to mass produce cheap body cams…
The next mobilization director MUST follow up on this…
Mr. Peter Obi has received a copy of this resignation via WhatsApp. He will accept the resignation.
The National Coordinator and my state coordinator have also received a copy…
It has been a privilege serving Obidients.
ON THE FUTURE FOR ME:
I intend traveling the world and just have a good time. I will focus more on my businesses… I might also seek elective office…
I will also continue to advise the other leaders of the movement… but I no longer want to be at the forefront anymore.
ON THE FUTURE OF THE OBIDIENT MOVEMENT:
[Detailed advice on engaging professional consultants, proper funding, KPIs, focus on polling unit agents, voter registration, etc., and urging Peter Obi to show more interest.]
Thanks, and God bless you all.
Morris Monye
Former Director of Mobilization
Obidient Movement
