TDThe Labour Party has officially released its timetable, schedule of activities, and nomination fees for the conduct of its 2026 primary elections in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

This was contained in a press statement issued on May 3, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa.

The party said the schedule aligns with provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to the timetable, the sale of nomination forms for all elective positions will commence on May 6, 2026, and close on May 16, 2026.

Submission of completed forms is slated for May 17 to May 18, while screening of aspirants will take place on May 20 for State House of Assembly and governorship hopefuls, and May 22 for National Assembly and presidential aspirants.

Screening results are expected to be published on May 23.

The party fixed May 24 and May 25 for appeals and petitions for state and national positions respectively, with the final list of cleared aspirants to be released on May 26.

Primary elections for State House of Assembly and governorship candidates are scheduled for May 27, while those for National Assembly and presidential candidates will hold on May 29.

On the cost of participation, the party pegged the total nomination fees for State House of Assembly aspirants at ₦3 million, House of Representatives at ₦5 million, Senate at ₦10 million, governorship at ₦25 million, and presidential aspirants at ₦50 million.

Notably, the party disclosed that the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, will receive the governorship nomination form free of charge.

In a move aimed at promoting inclusivity, the Labour Party announced concessions for women, youths aged 25 to 30, and persons living with disabilities, who will only be required to purchase expression of interest forms across all categories.

The party also urged prospective aspirants who are yet to register as members to take advantage of its ongoing electronic registration, which closes at midnight on May 4, 2026.

This, it said, is necessary for the compilation and submission of its membership register to INEC in compliance with the Electoral Act.

The announcement marks a significant step in the party’s preparations as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
