TDThe Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has launched a scathing attack on Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
IPOB accusing him of hypocrisy and political betrayal over recent criticism of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, for calling for the release of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, IPOB spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful, expressed outrage over remarks attributed to the Anambra State Government.
Soludo reportedly faulted Obi’s demand for Kanu’s unconditional release, describing such calls as a challenge to Nigeria’s judicial process.
Reacting to the development, IPOB alleged that Governor Soludo had dramatically changed his position on the detention of Kanu despite previously advocating for his release.
The group recalled that in May 2022, Soludo visited Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja and publicly supported efforts aimed at securing his freedom.

According to the separatist group, Soludo’s current position contradicts his earlier stance.
It raises questions about the governor’s commitment to resolving the security and political challenges facing the South-East region.
IPOB further referenced comments made by Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, in 2025, in which the state government reportedly maintained that securing Kanu’s release could contribute significantly to restoring peace in the region.
The group accused the governor of abandoning that position for what it described as personal political ambitions.
In the statement, IPOB alleged that Soludo’s recent posture was motivated by a desire to gain favour within Nigeria’s political establishment, a claim for which it provided no evidence.
The statement also contained criticisms of several prominent South-East political figures, accusing them of failing to adequately defend the interests of the Igbo people.
IPOB argued that continued support for Kanu’s release transcends ethnic and regional boundaries and has received backing from individuals and groups across different parts of the country.
Emma Powerful maintained that the campaign for Kanu’s freedom remains a central objective for IPOB.
He insisted that the detained separatist leader’s case represents a broader struggle for justice, equity and political inclusion.
The group praised Peter Obi and other public figures who have recently called for a political solution to Kanu’s detention.
It described such interventions as necessary for peace and reconciliation in the South-East.
IPOB also warned Governor Soludo against what it termed “political inconsistency”.
The group claimed that history would judge leaders who abandoned causes they once publicly championed.
The statement comes amid renewed public debate over the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu and increasing calls from various political, religious and community leaders for the Federal Government to explore non-judicial avenues toward resolving the matter.
Neither Governor Soludo nor the Anambra State Government had formally responded to IPOB’s latest accusations as of the time of filing this report.
Kanu, meanwhile, remains in Sokoto prison where he is serving the life sentence imposed on his by a federal court.
