TD Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the chieftaincy title “Ugoeze Anambra” by traditional rulers in Anambra State.
The honour was conferred on the First Lady during her official visit to the state on Thursday, September 10, 2026, where she launched the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East Zone.
A video of the ceremony shows the First Lady receiving the traditional honour from Anambra traditional rulers. The conferment was also reported in a social-media post featuring footage of the ceremony.
First Lady Visits Anambra for Food Bank Launch
Tinubu’s visit to Anambra was centred on the South-East launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme, a federal intervention targeting food insecurity and vulnerable households.
The Anambra State Government had announced that the programme would be launched at the Iteze Centre, Old Government House, Amawbia.
The programme forms part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to improve access to food and nutritional support for vulnerable Nigerians.
A Growing Series of Traditional Honours
The conferment of “Ugoeze Anambra” adds to the growing list of traditional titles bestowed on Oluremi Tinubu during her engagements across the country.
The First Lady was previously honoured in June 2025 with the title “Ugosimba I of Enugu” by the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council.
The title was described as meaning “jewel/eagle from another kingdom,” with the council citing her humanitarian activities and commitment to national development.
On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, one day before her Anambra visit, Tinubu was also conferred with the “Oso Di Eme of Imo” title by traditional rulers in Imo State.
The Imo title was translated as “One who supports her husband”, with traditional rulers recognising her role in supporting the policies and programmes of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Anambra Visit Highlights Federal-State Collaboration
Beyond the traditional ceremony, Tinubu’s visit featured government programmes focused on poverty reduction, food security, economic empowerment and skills development.
The First Lady also commissioned an Information and Communication Technology centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, as part of the day’s activities.
The Anambra State Government said the ICT facility is intended to equip young people with skills in areas including coding, software development, innovation and other digital competencies.
Food Intervention Targets Vulnerable Families
The South-East food bank initiative is expected to provide assistance to vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.
According to the Anambra State Government, beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention.
It promised to improve access to nutritious food and contribute to better maternal and child nutrition in communities.
The launch in Anambra completes the zonal rollout of the National Community Food Bank Programme, with implementation expected to extend across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
The “Ugoeze Anambra” title marks another traditional recognition for the First Lady during her nationwide engagements.
