TDMounting concerns have emerged across Nigeria’s online community following allegations that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is manipulating the voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Social media posts, including one by activist Queen Bee (@RealQueenBee__), warned Nigerians to urgently verify their voter registration details on INEC’s portal.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, can you start checking yours now because we want to start the escalations,” she wrote.

She accused the commission of becoming a “rogue institution under Joash Amupitan.”

Allegations of Systematic Deletions

The accusations claim that INEC is systematically deleting voter registrations belonging to specific demographics, raising fears of widespread disenfranchisement.

Critics argue that if unchecked, millions of Nigerians could arrive at polling stations in 2027 only to discover their names missing from the register.

Activists pointed to the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election, where voters reportedly found their names absent from the database despite holding valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

They warn that similar glitches could recur on a national scale, undermining confidence in the electoral process.

Technical Glitches Fuel Suspicion

Users also reported persistent technical issues on INEC’s website.

One complaint highlighted that clicking on the “start transfer request” link repeatedly redirected users back to the homepage, creating an “endless loop.”

Such glitches have fueled suspicions that the commission’s digital infrastructure is either compromised or deliberately manipulated.

Calls for Accountability

Public frustration has escalated into demands for accountability.

Some voices on social media have called for INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan to be investigated and even arrested, accusing him of presiding over “undemocratic criminality.”

One viral post declared: “In 2027, so many people will arrive the polling stations only to find out that their names are missing from the voters register.

“God has revealed what would have been a disaster in 2027 polls. INEC should be subjected to a forensic audit.”

Broader Implications

Analysts warn that allegations of voter register manipulation strike at the heart of Nigeria’s democracy.

The credibility of elections depends on the integrity of the voter roll, and any perception of tampering could erode public trust.

Digital rights advocates argue that the situation underscores the need for independent forensic audits of INEC’s systems, involving all political parties and civil society organizations.

They stress that transparency is essential to reassure Nigerians that their votes will count.

Silence from INEC and Conclusion

As of June 3, INEC has not issued an official response to the allegations.

The absence of communication has only intensified speculation and anger online, with hashtags such as #INECManipulation and #SaveOurVotes trending across platforms.

With less than a year to the 2027 general elections, the controversy over INEC’s voter register has become a flashpoint in Nigeria’s political discourse.

Citizens are being urged to verify their voter details immediately, while activists press for urgent reforms and investigations.

The unfolding crisis highlights a simple but critical demand from Nigerians: electoral transparency and accountability.

Without it, confidence in the democratic process risks being severely undermined.
