TD The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has warned that he may not even be alive to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Obi accused the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government of deliberately frustrating his businesses and political activities.

Speaking during an interview on WithChude, Obi said he faces what he described as daily intimidation and subtle persecution.

He stated that government actions have made ordinary aspects of his life increasingly difficult.

His remarks have sparked widespread reactions after a clip from the interview circulated on X, attracting more than 440,000 views and over 10,000 likes within hours.

“I Might Not Even Be Alive”

Responding to a question on whether he feared he could be prevented from contesting the next presidential election, Obi made a startling statement.

“Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor alleged that every aspect of his livelihood is being targeted.

“Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating me. Deliberately so. Everything.

“So there’s even a possibility, if they have an opportunity, I will not be alive.”

When interviewer Chude Jideonwo described the allegation as serious, Obi maintained that the pattern of events convinced him that he was being deliberately frustrated.

Airport Incident

Obi cited a recent incident at an airport as an example of what he believes is targeted harassment.

According to him, airport officials locked his vehicle despite other cars being parked in the same area.

He recalled questioning the officials about why his vehicle was singled out while others were left untouched.

He added that he observed them conferring among themselves before insisting on the action.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate said the incident reflected a broader pattern of discrimination he has experienced.

“People Are Afraid to Be Seen With Me”

Obi also claimed that fear of government retaliation has discouraged some Nigerians from publicly associating with him.

According to him, some airport workers avoid greeting him in public because they fear becoming targets.

He further alleged that families have invited him to social events, including weddings.

However, they will later ask him not to attend because of concerns that his presence could attract unwanted attention from authorities.

Calls for National Unity

Despite his allegations, Obi said Nigeria’s deeper challenge is growing division and distrust among its citizens.

He argued that hatred has become deeply entrenched and pledged that restoring unity, compassion and mutual respect would be central to his political vision.

“We have divided the country, breeding hatred among us,” Obi said.

He added that he wants to rebuild national unity through “love, compassion and care.”

Growing Political Debate

The interview has generated intense discussion across social media, with supporters expressing concern over Obi’s claims.

Meanwhile, critics have challenged the allegations and called for evidence.

As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government had not publicly responded to the specific claims made by Obi during the interview.

The comments are expected to further fuel debate over Nigeria’s political climate as parties and potential candidates begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
