TDThe Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has announced Chibuzo Okereke, a governance expert and policy strategist, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday by Ken Asogwa, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary.
According to the statement, Okereke emerged as the party’s flag bearer through a consensus process involving Labour Party members and key stakeholders across the country.
The decision was subsequently ratified at a meeting held in Abuja on Friday.
Asogwa said the consensus arrangement reflected the party’s commitment to internal unity and its determination to present a candidate capable of addressing Nigeria’s governance and development challenges ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He described Okereke as a seasoned policy strategist with extensive experience in governance, public administration, and institutional reform, adding that the party believes he possesses the vision and competence required to lead the country.
The announcement comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the Labour Party, with different factions laying claim to the party’s national structure.
The Nenadi Usman-led group maintains that its processes are aimed at strengthening the party and positioning it as a viable alternative in the 2027 electoral contest.
Party officials said consultations with members, stakeholders, and support groups informed the consensus decision that produced Okereke as the faction’s presidential candidate.
The development is expected to generate reactions within the Labour Party and across Nigeria’s political landscape as preparations gradually intensify for the 2027 general elections.
Further details regarding Okereke’s policy agenda and campaign structure are expected to be unveiled by the party in the coming weeks.
