Peter Obi’s chances for 2027 just received a major boost after the NDC officially zoned its presidential ticket to the South.
The motion was moved at the National Convention of the NDC by the member representing Ogbaru Constituency of Anambra State in the 10th National Assembly, Afam Victor Ogene and was adopted by the delegates.
It was also resolved that after the four years single term, the Presidential ticket will be automatically zoned to the north.
This decision has cleared the way for the former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi and other Southern aspirants to process and purchase the presidential form of the party.

What It Means for Southern Aspirants
According to party stakeholders, the decision means only southern aspirants will be eligible to contest for the party’s presidential ticket.
With Peter Obi being one of the strongest southern political figures in Nigeria today, many believe this could reshape the 2027 political landscape.
The party also stated that the candidate will emerge through democratic primaries, not consensus.
Earlier Report by This Dawn
It could be recalled that This Dawn first published news of the zoning on May 5, 2026.
This medium quoted Buba Galadima, a prominent political figure and close associate of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as saying that NDC zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking on the development, Galadima noted that the decision reflects the party’s commitment to fairness and strategic positioning in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
According to him, zoning the presidential ticket to the South aligns with longstanding calls for rotational leadership, a principle widely regarded as essential for maintaining national unity in a diverse country like Nigeria.
He emphasized that the NDC leadership carefully considered the current political climate before arriving at the decision.
