TDA dramatic show of support unfolded at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus, on Friday, as students under the banner of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council, Anambra State, endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.

The students announced a collective donation of ₦10,735,500 towards the purchase of Tinubu’s expression of interest form, describing the gesture as a symbolic appreciation for his educational reforms.

 Why They Endorsed Tinubu

Speaking during the presentation, Ifeanyichukwu Chukwuemeka, Chairman of NANS JCC in Anambra, said the endorsement was driven by the impact of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme.

“We, the beneficiaries of the NELFUND scheme, are collectively endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.

“This is in recognition of the transformative impact of the NELFUND’s access to higher education and the alleviation of financial burdens for Nigerian students,” Chukwuemeka declared.

He added that the donation was not just financial support but a symbolic expression of gratitude for Tinubu’s “bold educational reforms, youth-oriented policies, and commitment to expanding access to tertiary education opportunities across the nation.”

 Political Implications

The endorsement is likely to spark debate across Nigeria’s political landscape.

While Tinubu’s administration has faced criticism over economic hardship and inflation, the NELFUND scheme has been hailed by many students as a lifeline, easing the burden of tuition and living costs.

Observers note that student endorsements carry symbolic weight, especially in a country where youth make up a significant portion of the electorate.

However, critics argue that such donations raise questions about the independence of student unions and whether political influence is at play.

 Conclusion

With ₦10.7 million pledged, the students of Anambra State University have positioned themselves as vocal supporters of Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Whether this endorsement translates into broader youth support at the ballot box remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, the gesture underscores how education policy can shape political loyalty in Nigeria.
