The Labour Party (LP) has officially disowned a series of viral social media posts urging former presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to abandon the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and rejoin the LP.
The Party described the messages as fraudulent, unauthorized, and misleading.
It stressed that it does not operate any social media accounts at present.
This was disclosed in a strongly worded press release issued by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman.
The Party reiterated its earlier position from February 9, 2026, that all its social media platforms remain inactive.
Labour Party Exposes Fraudulent
The Party drew attention to a suspicious X (formerly Twitter) account operating under the name “LABOUR PARTY (LP) NIG” with the handle @LabourpartyNGR_, which has been circulating posts claiming to represent LP’s official stance.
According to LP, preliminary checks revealed that this was the same account previously disowned in February 2026.
After the disclaimer, the operators allegedly changed the account name and handle to continue deceiving unsuspecting members of the public.
The Party clarified that its only known social media accounts are:
- Facebook: Labour Party-Nig (approx. 12,000 followers)
- X (Twitter): LabourPartyNG (approx. 837,000 followers)
Both accounts, however, remain inactive.
Labour Party Petitions Police
The Labour Party disclosed that it has formally petitioned the Nigerian Police Force to recover its official X account, LabourPartyNG, which is currently under the control of former Party leadership.
Individuals involved, including Barr. Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk, are said to be cooperating with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department.
They are providing information regarding their activities and the unauthorized use of LP’s social media platforms.
The Party assured the public that once investigations are concluded and the accounts recovered, citizens will be duly informed.
Warning to the Public
In the meantime, LP emphasized that it does not operate any social media account for public communication.
All official information is disseminated strictly through press statements issued by the Office of the Interim National Chairman.
The Party urged Nigerians to disregard any information originating from the fraudulent account @LabourpartyNGR_, as well as any content currently being circulated via LabourPartyNG.
This includes a recent viral post falsely claiming that LP is expecting the return of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The Party categorically stated that such claims are unauthorized and do not reflect its official position.

Context and Media Appreciation
The Labour Party expressed gratitude to the Nigerian media for its vigilance and balanced reportage.
It noted that accurate coverage is crucial in preventing the spread of misinformation.
“We appreciate the continued vigilance, professionalism, and balanced reportage of the media in covering our activities,” the statement read.
This latest disclaimer underscores the growing challenge of misinformation in Nigeria’s political space.
Fake social media accounts often impersonate political parties and leaders to mislead the public in the political space.
The Labour Party rose to prominence during the 2023 general elections under the candidacy of Peter Obi.
It has faced repeated struggles with internal leadership disputes and control of its communication channels.
By restating its position, LP aims to reassure supporters and the wider public that any official updates will only come through authorized press releases until its verified accounts are fully recovered.
