TDThe Labour Party (LP) has announced the expulsion and suspension of several key members, including its National Youth Leader, Kennedy Ahanotu, and National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, in a sweeping disciplinary action that signals deepening internal tensions within the party.

The decision was taken by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), which released an official list of affected members on Thursday. The move is seen as one of the most extensive crackdowns in the party’s recent history, targeting prominent figures across various levels of leadership.

Among those named are:

  1. Kennedy Ahanotu,
  2. Dr. Ayo Olurunfemi,
  3. Abayomi Arabambi,
  4. Umar Faruk Ibrahim,
  5. Auwal Tafoki, and,
  6. Obiora Ifoh, alongside 20 others drawn from different states and party structures.

According to the NEC, the action forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce discipline and maintain internal cohesion, although detailed reasons for the expulsions and suspensions were not immediately disclosed.

Other individuals listed include:

  1. Eneyi G. Zidougha,
  2. Hilda Doukubo,
  3. Lincolin Charles,
  4. Muhammed Sabitu Aliyu,
  5. Ogar Osim,
  6. Vincent Okwuokei,
  7. Casmir Agbo Uchenna,
  8. Simon Zubairu Bamga,
  9. Abduljamid Sa’ad Suleiman,
  10. Emmanuel Agida,
  11. Auwala Ahmed,
  12. Ularama Jubrila,
  13. Grace Zafara Posat,
  14. Suleiman Abdurahman Abdul,
  15. Ajibade Adekunle Samson,
  16. Alexander Emmanuel Ombugu,
  17. Elizabeth Ativie,
  18. Godwin Jioke,
  19. Airen Igbinedion, and,
  20. Osas Frank.

Implications for the Labour Party

The development has sparked fresh concerns about internal divisions within the Labour Party, which has faced a series of leadership disputes and factional disagreements in recent months.

Political observers say the scale of the disciplinary measures could have significant implications for the party’s structure and future electoral prospects, particularly as it seeks to consolidate its position as a major opposition force.

As of press time, there has been no official reaction from the affected members, though sources within the party suggest that legal and political responses may follow in the coming days.

Further details are expected as the situation unfolds.

Stay tuned…
