TD Two Nigerian media organisations, ABN TV and The Nation’s Eyes Newspaper, have issued separate public apologies to constitutional lawyer and human rights advocate, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, over the erroneous use of his photograph.

The errors appeared in reports relating to the termination of the legal services of Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Both media organisations acknowledged the publication of Barrister Ejimakor’s photograph alongside reports concerning Barrister Ejiofor.

They noted that it was an editorial error and expressed regret for the confusion and embarrassment the mistake may have caused.

ABN TV Admits Editorial Error

In a statement issued by its management on Tuesday, ABN TV offered what it described as a “sincere and unreserved apology” to Barr. Ejimakor over the inadvertent use of his image in a report published on Monday, July 27, 2026.

The report was published under the headline: “Nnamdi Kanu Formally Terminates Ifeanyi Ejiofor’s Services, Withdraws Authority to Represent Him, IPOB.”

The station clarified that the use of Ejimakor’s photograph was purely an editorial mistake.

It admitted that it was never intended to suggest that the report referred to him or to associate him with the subject of the publication.

According to the statement, the error was brought to management’s attention and the publication was immediately reviewed.

Consequently, the incorrect image was removed, and the necessary corrections were made across its platforms.

ABN TV expressed deep regret over any inconvenience, embarrassment, or misunderstanding the error may have caused to Barr. Ejimakor, its audience, and members of the public.

The organisation further stated that it holds the lawyer in high professional regard

It also recognises his right to accurate and fair representation in media publications.

ABN TV reaffirmed its commitment to responsible journalism.

It said it remains dedicated to the principles of accuracy, fairness, professionalism, and ethical reporting.

It added that it has strengthened its editorial review procedures to minimise the possibility of similar errors in future publications.

The Nation’s Eyes Newspaper Also Apologises

In a separate statement, The Nation’s Eyes Newspaper also tendered an unreserved apology to Barr. Ejimakor.

It apologized for mistakenly publishing his photograph in a report carried on Monday, July 27, 2026, under the headline: “Nnamdi Kanu Ends Relationship with Longtime Lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor.”

The newspaper acknowledged that the use of Ejimakor’s image was an editorial oversight.

It stressed that it was never intended to misrepresent him or create any false association between him and the subject of the report.

The publication disclosed that after Ejimakor brought the mistake to the attention of its Editor-in-Chief, immediate steps were taken to rectify the error.

The incorrect photograph was removed, appropriate corrections were made without delay, and an apology was issued.

The newspaper expressed sincere regret over the incident.

It apologised for any inconvenience, misunderstanding, or embarrassment caused to Ejimakor, its readers, and the general public.

Signed by Editor-in-Chief, NZE Noel Chiagorom, the statement reaffirmed the newspaper’s commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, accuracy, fairness, and ethical journalism.

It further pledged to comply with the laws and code of conduct governing the practice of journalism.

It also pledged to strengthen its editorial review processes to prevent a recurrence of similar mistakes.

Commitment to Ethical Journalism

The separate apologies from ABN TV and The Nation’s Eyes Newspaper underscore the importance of accuracy in news reporting, particularly in the use of photographs that identify individuals.

Both organisations acknowledged their errors and promptly corrected the affected publications.

They reaffirmed their commitment to responsible and ethical journalism.
