Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, have successfully rescued 32 kidnapped victims.

The troops also neutralised two terrorists in a major offensive operation in Dikawa Village, Matazu Local Government Area.

The Operation

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops launched a coordinated assault in the early hours of Friday, May 8, 2026.

A fierce firefight ensued, forcing the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee.

Subsequent clearance operations in the area led to the recovery of:

  • 2 AK-47 rifles
  • Ammunition and fabricated weapons
  • Motorcycles and rustled livestock
  • Destruction of terrorist hideouts

The Rescued Victims

The rescued individuals include:

  • 9 men
  • 10 women
  • 13 children

They have since been evacuated to safety and are receiving medical attention and care.

Official Statement

Military authorities hailed the operation as a significant success in the fight against terrorism in the North West.

They reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying operations against criminal elements, assuring citizens that no effort will be spared in safeguarding lives and property.
