TDThe Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has approved the appointment of Professor Peter Azikiwe Onwualu as the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.
The announcement, contained in a press statement issued on April 21, 2026, confirmed that Onwualu, a professor of Agricultural Engineering and current Vice-Chancellor of African University of Science and Technology, will head the institution’s Governing Council.
He is also a former Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council.
According to the statement, the appointment reflects the governor’s confidence in Onwualu’s extensive academic and administrative experience.
The new Pro-Chancellor is widely regarded as a distinguished engineer and seasoned administrator, with significant contributions to Agricultural and Materials Engineering in Nigeria.
Over the course of his career, Onwualu has held several high-profile positions, including serving as a Visiting Professor at the National Universities Commission (NUC) and as Co-Centre Leader at the World Bank-funded Pan African Materials Institute.
He has authored more than 200 academic publications and holds 10 patents, while also earning recognition from over 70 organisations.
Additionally, he is a fellow of 12 scientific and professional bodies.
Governor Soludo, who serves as the Visitor to the state-owned university, also approved the appointment of other members of the Governing Council.
Those named include Chief Christopher Ndubuisi; HRH Igwe Chidiume Oranu; Professor Josephat O. Ogbuagu; and retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Sir Chris Ezike.
The statement emphasized that the newly constituted council is expected to leverage its collective expertise and diverse professional backgrounds to advance the university’s vision and strengthen its governance framework.
The administration expressed optimism that the appointments would enhance institutional stability and promote academic excellence at the university.
