TDGovernor Soludo Appoints New Heads for Key Anambra Health Institutions
The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has approved the appointment of three senior medical professionals to head critical health institutions in the state, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and institutional efficiency.
The appointments, announced in a press statement issued on April 23, 2026, named Dr. Ezeaka Augustine Uwaeme, Dr. Obianuju Chinelo Okoye, and Dr. Hillary Nkem Okeke to strategic leadership roles across the state’s health agencies.
According to the statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, Dr. Uwaeme has been appointed as the Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency.
Dr. Okoye will serve as the Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency.
Meanwhile, Dr. Okeke has been named Executive Director of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency.
Providing details on the appointees, the government described Dr. Uwaeme as a seasoned medical practitioner with over 22 years of experience in medicine and surgery.
His career spans both clinical practice and healthcare management, with a track record that reflects academic excellence and administrative capability.
He has undergone specialized training at several institutions, including Thomas Jefferson University in the United States, as well as professional training centres in India and Nigeria.
His educational background also includes studies at the University of Ilorin and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
Dr. Obianuju Chinelo Okoye, appointed to lead the state’s primary healthcare development agency, brings more than two decades of integrated experience across hospital practice and public health systems.
She holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Ebonyi State University, along with a Master’s degree in Public Health and a Diploma in Family Medicine from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
The statement noted her strong administrative capacity, training expertise, and active participation in professional conferences where she has presented research papers.
Also appointed is Dr. Hillary Nkem Okeke, who will head the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency.
He is described as an award-winning medical expert and academic with significant experience in both clinical practice and research.
His areas of specialization include epidemiology, global health management, and community healthcare systems.
A graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Dr. Okeke also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and is affiliated with several professional medical bodies.
He has contributed to academic discourse through presentations at conferences and seminars.
The state government expressed confidence in the capacity of the newly appointed officials to drive reforms and improve service delivery across the healthcare sector.
It emphasized that their combined expertise in clinical medicine, public health, administration, and research positions them to effectively tackle emerging health challenges and strengthen institutional performance.
Governor Soludo’s administration has consistently highlighted healthcare as a priority sector, with ongoing efforts to expand access, improve infrastructure, and enhance the quality of services available to residents.
