TDLet’s call a spade a spade for once in this country. Nigeria is bleeding from decades of political entitlement, and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has already become a crying shame—a monument to failed governance and institutional decay.

Because of this, Nigerians are completely ready to take their country back.

The emergence of the New Democratic Coalition (NDC) was seen as the ultimate vehicle for that rescue mission.

But if the common whispers on the streets of Anaedo and across the nation are anything to go by, the NDC is on the verge of repeating the exact sins that destroyed the older parties.

Rumours are swelling that the NDC leadership intends to hand automatic return tickets to all sitting National Assembly members.

This is an absolute mockery of democratic progress.

Under our constitution, a political term strictly ends with an election cycle.

Power belongs to the people, not to an incumbent elite.

There is absolutely no reason why the party hierarchy has remained silent.

Meanwhile, these dangerous whispers demoralize loyal grassroots party faithful and aspirants who are spending millions to mobilize the ground.

If the NDC truly purports to practice a different type of politics, it must entrench true democracy in its party polity right now.

We cannot claim we want to drive change externally while practicing undemocratic imposition internally.

I am publicly calling on our national leaders, Mr. Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to clear the air and declare their definitive stands on this matter.

The NDC National Working Committee must immediately issue a clear, unambiguous memo reassuring all aspirants that there will be a level playing field.

Every single ticket must be hard-earned through transparent, competitive primaries.

If we want Nigerians to trust us to lead the nation, we must first prove that we respect our own rules.

This undemocratic shortcut must be fiercely discouraged before it kills the finest political movement of our generation.
