TD The mother of former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, is dead.
Same Amaechi passed away at the age of 89.
Reacting to a public statement announcing the death, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the death of Dame Amaechi.
President Tinubu’s reaction was relayed on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on July 17, 2026.
In his condolence message, President Tinubu described the late matriarch as a woman of unwavering Catholic faith, strong family values, and remarkable dedication to raising children committed to public service.
The President said Dame Amaechi’s life embodied the virtues of love, sacrifice, kindness, and perseverance, qualities that earned her the admiration and respect of those who knew her.
He urged the Amaechi family to draw strength from the enduring legacy she left behind through her faith, dignity, and service to her family, the Catholic Church, and society.
President Tinubu also extended his sympathies to the Catholic faithful, the government and people of Rivers State, and all those affected by the loss.
“My heartfelt condolences to Rt. Hon. Amaechi, the entire Amaechi family, the Catholic faithful, and the government and people of Rivers State over the loss of Dame Ezinne Amaechi, a champion of faith whose life was marked by humility and selfless service to humanity.
“May Almighty God grant her soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourn her passing at this difficult time,” the President said.
