Residents Commend Tinubu’s Infrastructure Drive

TD Makurdi, Benue State — The Presidential Media Team, alongside the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, has concluded an inspection tour of major Federal and Benue State infrastructure projects, with residents praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for ongoing investments in roads, bridges and other public infrastructure aimed at boosting economic development and regional connectivity.

The inspection covered several key projects, including the ongoing Buruku-Logo Bridge, the Wurukum Overhead Bridge in Makurdi, the 22-kilometre Makurdi-Gboko Road, the completed High-Level Roundabout Interchange in Makurdi, and the Gboko Underpass and Interchange.

The tour, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, formed part of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ National Media Tour, which brought together more than 40 editors and journalists to independently assess and document infrastructure projects being implemented by the Federal and state governments under President Tinubu’s administration.

Addressing journalists during the inspection, Onanuga described the Buruku-Logo Bridge as one of five Federal Government bridges currently under construction in Benue State.

He said the projects demonstrate the administration’s commitment to investing in critical infrastructure to stimulate economic growth and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.

According to him, the Buruku-Logo Bridge will reconnect communities previously separated by the River Benue, shorten travel time, improve access to markets for farmers and strengthen commercial activities across Benue, Taraba and Adamawa states.

Onanuga also defended the Federal Government’s borrowing strategy, stating that the funds are being channelled into productive infrastructure projects through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund.

He assured Nigerians that adequate funding had been provided to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects.

Among the projects visited were the ongoing 25.6-kilometre Captain Dan Road from Lubona Junction to the Tor Tiv Palace, the Food Basket Brewery Limited in Makurdi, and the Federal Government-funded rehabilitation of the Buruku-Gboko Water Treatment Plant at Ameladu Headworks, one of Benue State’s largest water infrastructure facilities.

A major highlight of the inspection was the 1,754-metre Buruku-Logo Bridge, which is expected to improve transportation between agrarian communities, facilitate movement into neighbouring Taraba State and enhance agricultural and commercial activities in the region.

Officials noted that the project has also created employment opportunities, with more than 50 members of the host community currently engaged on the construction site.

Residents who interacted with the visiting delegation described the bridge as a transformative intervention that would eliminate dangerous river crossings, reduce the incidence of boat accidents during the rainy season and improve livelihoods through expanded economic opportunities.

Many of the residents also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure development and pledged continued support for his Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the visible progress of ongoing projects had strengthened public confidence in the Federal Government.

Speaking during the tour, Benue State Deputy Governor Dr. Samuel Ode thanked the Federal Government for its investments in the state and expressed optimism that the projects would further improve transportation and economic activities.

He described the Wurukum Overhead Bridge as a strategic intervention on the Abuja-Lafia-Makurdi-Enugu highway, noting that the junction had long been associated with severe traffic congestion, especially during festive periods.

According to him, President Tinubu approved the project following a request by Governor Hyacinth Alia, and construction is progressing steadily.

Dr. Ode also highlighted the state government’s investment in the Makurdi Central Interchange and Underpass, describing it as a landmark project that would improve traffic flow while connecting major routes leading to the Government House, Central Business District, Wurukum and the Abuja-Enugu highway.

The Makurdi-Gboko Road, which forms part of Phase II of the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi Expressway, remains one of the strategic federal road projects expected to strengthen connectivity between North-Central Nigeria and the South-East.

The project is scheduled for completion by December 2027.
