TDThe leadership of the Labour Party has distanced itself from nomination forms allegedly being distributed by former national chairman, Julius Abure.
The party described the documents as “worthless paper”.
It warned party faithful against dealing with unauthorized persons.
This was contained in a strongly worded press release issued on May 17, 2026, by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa.
Asogwa said the party had received numerous enquiries from members, supporters and aspirants.
The calls followed the circulation of photographs on social media allegedly showing Abure presenting nomination forms to some individuals in Abia State.
The statement said the party initially chose to ignore the development but was compelled to respond due to growing public concern and requests for clarification.
According to the release, Senator Nenadi Usman remains the legitimate National Chairman of the party.
It stressed that all authentic nomination forms for the 2027 general elections can only be obtained from the party’s National Secretariat located in Utako, Abuja.
The party warned that any nomination form obtained from Abure or any unauthorized source should be regarded as invalid.
It alleged that political fraudsters were attempting to deceive unsuspecting aspirants and members of the public.
Labour Party further questioned why the alleged sales activities were concentrated in Abia State.
It suggested that attempts to pressure or intimidate Alex Otti, whom it described as the national leader of the party, would not succeed.
The statement also accused Abure of continued impersonation of the office of the National Chairman, describing the act as a criminal offence with serious legal implications.
“As a lawyer, he should know better,” the statement read.
It added that “the net is steadily tightening around him” and that he could eventually face law enforcement authorities and the courts over his actions.
The development marks the latest chapter in the prolonged leadership crisis within the Labour Party, which has seen rival factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
