TDA massive 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the northeastern coast of Japan on Monday, triggering urgent tsunami warnings and sparking widespread concern across the nation.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that the quake’s epicentre was located in the Pacific Ocean, just 10 km below the seabed.
Authorities warned that tsunami waves could reach up to 3 metres (9.84 ft).
The most severe impact expected in Iwate, Aomori, and Hokkaido prefectures.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi addressed the nation shortly after the quake, announcing the establishment of an emergency task force.
“We are calling on citizens in the affected areas to evacuate to safety,” she urged.
The development emphasized the importance of swift action as aftershocks remain likely.

National broadcaster NHK interrupted programming to show dramatic scenes of ships sailing out of Hachinohe port in Hokkaido, attempting to avoid the incoming waves following the earthquate.
Across television screens, a stark warning flashed: “Tsunami! Evacuate!”
Transportation networks were immediately disrupted.
Bullet train services in Aomori, at the northern tip of Honshu island, were suspended, according to Kyodo News, as authorities assessed potential damage to rail infrastructure.
The earthquake measured an “upper 5” on Japan’s seismic intensity scale.
This level that makes it difficult for people to remain standing and often causes unreinforced concrete-block walls to collapse.
