TDThe Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy (CFRPA) has filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Kano seeking the disqualification of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election over allegations of certificate forgery.
The case is marked FHC/K/CS/312/2026.
The suit names President Tinubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Chicago State University as defendants.
Allegations Against the President
According to the court documents, the plaintiff alleges that President Tinubu submitted forged academic credentials from Chicago State University and a falsified National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate to INEC during the 2023 general election.
The group further contends that Tinubu’s claim of attending Government College, Lagos, is false, arguing that the institution was established in 1974—four years after the period in which he claimed to have graduated.
Reliefs Sought
CFRPA is asking the court to declare President Tinubu ineligible to contest the 2027 presidential election on the grounds that the alleged submission of forged documents contravenes constitutional provisions governing qualification for public office.
The organisation had earlier written to INEC requesting clarification on the President’s academic credentials.
It also indicated it would pursue legal action if the electoral body failed to address its concerns.
Matter Awaits Judicial Determination
As of the time of reporting, neither President Tinubu nor INEC had publicly responded to the fresh suit.
The allegations contained in the court filings remain claims by the plaintiff and have not been determined by the court.
