AFRIMMA Returns After Two-Year Break

The 2026 edition was particularly significant for AFRIMMA.

The awards returned after a two-year break.

Organisers also introduced a new music festival as part of the comeback.

The festival brought together music, culture, food, fashion and entertainment.

The event took place in Dallas, Texas, on September 12.

It featured artists and creatives from different parts of Africa and the diaspora.

The official AFRIMMA platform described the festival as a celebration of African music and culture.

It also featured Afrobeats, hip-hop, amapiano, highlife and other African sounds.

The return gave the awards renewed attention.

It also provided another platform for African artistes to connect with international audiences.

Davido Faces Strong Competition

Although Davido led the nominations, the competition remained strong.

Several major African artistes were also recognised.

Burna Boy received four nominations.

Ghanaian star Black Sherif also received four nominations.

Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz secured four nominations as well.

South African singer Tyla led the female nominees with three nominations.

Nigerian singer Tems received two nominations.

The nominations showed the growing diversity of Africa’s music industry.

They also highlighted the increasing competition among established stars and younger artistes.

“With You” by Davido and Omah Lay Gets Major Recognition

One of Davido’s biggest highlights was his collaboration with Omah Lay.

The song “With You” earned nominations for Best Collaboration and Song of the Year.

The recognition placed the two Nigerian stars among the leading contenders at the awards.

The song has also helped strengthen the connection between established Afrobeats stars and the new generation.

Davido has remained one of the genre’s most recognisable international figures.

Omah Lay has also built a strong global following through his distinctive sound.

Their collaboration therefore attracted attention beyond Nigeria.

Nigerian Music Continues to Grow Globally

Davido’s AFRIMMA recognition comes at a time when Nigerian music continues to expand worldwide.

Afrobeats has moved beyond its traditional African audience.

Nigerian artistes now regularly perform across Europe, North America and other international markets.

Major collaborations have also helped Nigerian music reach new listeners.

Streaming platforms have played an important role in this expansion.

Social media has also made it easier for Nigerian songs to travel across borders.

Songs can now become international hits without relying only on traditional radio promotion.

This has created new opportunities for Nigerian artistes.

It has also increased global interest in Nigeria’s music industry.

More Than Just Davido

The AFRIMMA nominations also showed that Nigerian music has depth.

Davido was joined by several other Nigerian stars across different categories.

Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema, Asake, Ayra Starr, Tems and Tiwa Savage were among the Nigerian names represented in the nominations.

The Best Male West Africa category alone featured several Nigerian heavyweights.

Davido, BNXN, Rema, Asake, Burna Boy, Wizkid and Ruger were all nominated.

The Best Female West Africa category also featured Nigerian stars.

Tems, Ayra Starr, Tiwa Savage and Teni were among the nominees.

This strong Nigerian presence demonstrates the country’s influence on the African music scene.

It also shows how competitive the Nigerian music industry has become.

AFRIMMA’s Global Importance

Awards such as AFRIMMA provide more than recognition.

They help connect African artistes with international audiences.

They also create opportunities for collaborations and cultural exchange.

The return of AFRIMMA therefore comes at an important time.

African music is attracting more global attention than ever before.

Artists from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania and other countries are building international careers.

The competition is also becoming more diverse.

New sounds continue to emerge across the continent.

At the same time, established stars continue to expand their influence.

What Davido’s Recognition Means

For Davido, the five nominations add another chapter to his long career.

He has spent years promoting Afrobeats around the world.

His latest AFRIMMA recognition shows that his influence remains strong.

It also demonstrates the continued international demand for Nigerian music.

Whether he takes home the biggest prizes or not, his five nominations have already placed him at the centre of this year’s conversation.

For Nigeria, the bigger story is the continued growth of its music industry.

Afrobeats has become a major part of the global entertainment conversation.

And Nigerian artistes remain at the heart of that movement.
