TDAn unspecified number of students are feared to have been abducted after suspected Boko Haram terrorists reportedly invaded a school in Borno State on Friday morning.
According to reports, the attack occurred at Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Mussa village, located in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Sources said the armed insurgents stormed the community on motorcycles shortly after troops stationed in the area had left on patrol. The village reportedly borders the Sambisa Forest, a known hideout for insurgent groups operating in the North-East.
A resident, Solomon Mussa, raised alarm over the incident in a social media post, claiming that schoolchildren were affected during the attack.
Confirming the development, the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, said suspected terrorists invaded the school premises, although details of the number of students abducted were still unclear at the time of reporting.
“Yes, I can confirm to you that some suspected terrorists riding on motorcycles invaded primary and junior secondary schools in Mussa village this morning,” Askira said.
He added that many students fled into nearby bushes during the attack, while efforts were ongoing to determine if any pupils or teachers were taken away by the insurgents.
The lawmaker described the incident as disturbing, especially because it reportedly occurred only minutes after security operatives left the community.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official statement on the incident.
