The 2027 political season is generating renewed calls for vibrant, articulate and effective leadership, with supporters of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, popularly known as Onyendozi, expressing confidence in his candidacy ahead of the forthcoming election.
The call for support was made on Sunday, October 11, 2026, during an interactive session between Nwankwo and a group of university lecturers drawn from the seven local government areas that make up the Anambra Central Senatorial District.
The meeting, held at Enugwu-Ukwu, provided an opportunity for discussions on leadership, constituency representation and the development priorities of the senatorial district.
Nwankwo, described by his supporters as an experienced and high-ranking member of the National Assembly, secured the APGA ticket for the Anambra Central senatorial contest through a decisive victory in the party’s primary election.
Addressing the gathering, the lawmaker urged constituents to work collectively towards securing his victory at the polls, stressing that effective representation would require cooperation and a shared commitment to the interests of the district.
He called on voters to support his candidacy, promising an inclusive approach to representation that would give all communities a voice in the affairs of the constituency.
According to him, the local government areas of Njikoka, Dunukofia, Anaocha, Awka North, Awka South, Idemili North and Idemili South would all receive attention under his proposed representation.
Emphasising his commitment to accessibility, Nwankwo declared that the constituency office belonged to the people and should serve as a common platform for addressing their concerns.
“This constituency office belongs to all of us,” he said, assuring constituents that they would be welcome to visit the office or contact its staff whenever they required assistance.
He further disclosed that arrangements had been concluded to keep the office’s telephone lines open round the clock to improve communication, responsiveness and service delivery to constituents.
Speaking on behalf of the lecturers, the group’s spokesperson, Dr. Chike Oramalu, described Nwankwo as a leading contender and expressed confidence in his prospects in the forthcoming senatorial election.
Oramalu, identified as a political science lecturer at the University of Idaho in the United States, said the group had subjected the candidates to scrutiny and assessment before arriving at its preference for Nwankwo.
He urged voters to make informed decisions when casting their ballots, emphasising the importance of evaluating candidates on their experience, leadership capacity and commitment to effective representation.
The endorsement reflects efforts by Nwankwo’s supporters to build a broad coalition of community stakeholders and professionals ahead of the Anambra Central senatorial election scheduled for January 2027.
As political activities gather momentum, the contest is expected to place increasing emphasis on candidates’ records, policy priorities, accessibility and capacity to address the needs of constituents across the seven local government areas.
