TDFresh allegations of internal divisions, corruption, and candidate imposition have emerged within the South-East chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), following claims by social media commentator PIDOMNIGERIA, known online as @UNOFFICIALFACT.
In a statement posted on social media, the commentator claimed to have concluded a week-long investigation into the party’s activities in the South-East and alleged that the NDC was facing a deepening internal crisis that could threaten its future in the region.
According to the statement, the party is allegedly confronted with multiple potential legal challenges arising from what the commentator described as “open bribery, corruption and injustice” within its South-East structures.
PIDOMNIGERIA further alleged that some members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) from the region used their positions to influence leadership appointments, seize control of party structures in several states, and impose preferred candidates ahead of forthcoming elections.
The commentator claimed that these actions were carried out against the wishes of party members and could undermine confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes.
The statement, however, absolved the party’s presidential ticket holders, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of any involvement in the alleged irregularities, describing them as “totally innocent” of the claims being raised.
PIDOMNIGERIA also referenced former Bayelsa State governor and senior party figure Seriake Dickson, stating that while he may have had good intentions for the party, he could not entirely distance himself from the challenges allegedly confronting the NDC in the South-East.
The commentator announced plans to publish details of an investigation into the NDC’s Enugu State chapter on June 6, 2026, promising to disclose what was described as evidence of alleged injustice, impunity, and corruption within the party, as well as the identities of individuals purportedly involved.
As of the time of filing this report, the NDC had not publicly responded to the allegations.
The claims remain unverified, and no court has ruled on any of the allegations raised in the statement.
Political observers note that internal disputes and leadership contests are common challenges for emerging political parties, particularly as preparations intensify for future electoral contests.
The anticipated publication of the Enugu findings is expected to generate further debate within the party and among political stakeholders in the South-East region.
