ADC Releases 2026 Primary Elections Timetable, Pegs Presidential Ticket Fee at ₦100m

TDThe African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially unveiled its timetable for the conduct of primary elections ahead of the 2027 general polls.

The schedule, released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, underscores ADC’s commitment to internal democracy, inclusivity, and compliance with Nigeria’s electoral guidelines.

 Key Dates in the Timetable

  • Sale of Nomination Forms: May 5 – May 10, 2026
  • Submission of Forms: May 11 – May 13, 2026
  • Screening of Aspirants: May 14 – May 15, 2026
  • Publication of Screening Results: May 17, 2026
  • Appeals: May 18 – May 19, 2026
  • Final List of Cleared Aspirants: May 20, 2026
  • Primary Elections:
    • State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate – May 21, 2026
    • Governorship Primaries – May 22, 2026
    • Presidential Primary – May 25, 2026
  • NEC Meeting: May 26, 2026
  • Special National Convention: May 27, 2026

 Nomination Fees

The ADC has introduced a structured fee regime for aspirants:

  • Presidential: ₦100 million
  • Governorship: ₦50 million
  • Senate: ₦20 million
  • House of Representatives: ₦10 million
  • State House of Assembly: ₦3 million

To encourage inclusivity, concessional rates have been approved:

  • 50% discount for youths
  • 25% discount for women and persons with disabilities

 Party’s Position

In its statement, the ADC emphasized that the timetable reflects its dedication to orderliness and transparency.

The party urged all members, stakeholders, and aspirants to strictly adhere to the outlined schedule and guidelines.

It stressed that compliance is essential to ensure credibility in the nomination process.

 Implications

The release of the timetable signals ADC’s readiness to participate actively in the 2027 elections.

Analysts note that the structured schedule and inclusivity measures could strengthen the party’s appeal among younger voters, women, and marginalized groups.

The Special National Convention on May 27, 2026, will serve as the final ratification stage, cementing the party’s candidates across all elective positions.
