TD A video circulating online has captured a confrontation involving Nigerian footballer Henry Onyekuru and a group of street urchins, described as “area boys”.
The confrontation took place after the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match between Inter Lagos and Kano Pillars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
The incident reportedly occurred after the match on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, when Onyekuru was preparing to leave the stadium.
Inter Lagos hosted Kano Pillars at the Onikan venue in a Matchday Five fixture, with the encounter ending in a 1–1 draw.

Alleged $4,000 Demand
According to the narration accompanying the video, Onyekuru had parked his Tesla Cybertruck at the stadium before going to watch the match.
The footage and accompanying account claim that, after the game, the former Galatasaray forward encountered a crowd blocking the route to where his vehicle was parked.
The men allegedly demanded $4,000 from the footballer before allowing him to gain access to his vehicle.
At the prevailing exchange rate, the amount would run into several million naira.
The account further alleges that the situation became heated, with one of the men reportedly confronting Onyekuru aggressively and appearing close to a physical altercation.
The footballer was eventually said to have abandoned the attempt to retrieve his vehicle and left the area on foot.
What the Video Shows
The video circulating online appears to show a tense crowd gathered around Onyekuru at the stadium premises.
The accompanying narration alleges that the group prevented him from accessing his Cybertruck and demanded money before he could leave.
However, the video and narration alone do not independently establish the identities or intentions of everyone shown, the exact amount demanded, or whether the men were actually “area boys.”
This Dawn News could also not find an independent report from the Lagos State Police Command, the stadium authorities, Inter Lagos, Kano Pillars or Onyekuru himself confirming the alleged $4,000 demand as of publication.
Consequently, the allegations remain unverified beyond the circulating footage and its accompanying account.
Incident Raises Questions About Security
The alleged confrontation has nevertheless generated concerns about security and the treatment of spectators and public figures at Nigerian football venues.
Regardless of the identity of those involved, spectators should be able to enter and leave sporting venues without intimidation, obstruction or demands for money.
The incident also raises questions about security arrangements at stadiums, particularly after high-profile matches when large crowds gather around players, officials and spectators.
Onyekuru, who has represented Nigeria internationally and previously played for clubs including Galatasaray, Monaco and Olympiacos, was reportedly attending the Inter Lagos-Kano Pillars fixture as a spectator.
Match Ends in 1–1 Draw
The incident came after an entertaining NPFL encounter between Inter Lagos and Kano Pillars.
Kano Pillars took the lead through Ubong Friday, following an assist from former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa.
Inter Lagos later equalised through Bashir Abdulkarim, with the match ending 1–1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
The match was part of the NPFL’s Matchday Five programme and kicked off at 4pm on September 23.
The circulating video has since prompted questions over whether the alleged confrontation could discourage footballers, celebrities and other spectators from attending matches at the venue if adequate security is not provided.
For now, however, the reported demand for $4,000 and the circumstances surrounding Onyekuru’s departure remain allegations contained in the circulating video and have not been independently confirmed by an authoritative source.
