TD The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, appeared at its headquarters in Abuja on Monday, July 20, 2026.

Gbajabiamila was to provide a statement in connection with the ongoing investigation into the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

According to the Commission, Gbajabiamila’s visit was strictly on invitation and formed part of its efforts to gather all relevant facts surrounding the controversial council.

He was not arrested but willingly honoured the invitation, spending time with investigators before departing the premises.

Background to the Controversy

The PFIPC has been at the centre of a storm after revelations that it operated from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja for nearly two years under one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who allegedly paraded himself as Director-General.

The Presidency has since disowned the entity, describing it as fraudulent.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the ICPC to investigate how the council managed to secure office space, staff approvals, and even budgetary allocations despite lacking a legal foundation.

Reports indicate that the PFIPC received over ₦1.3 billion in the 2026 budget, raising questions about how it infiltrated Nigeria’s fiscal framework.

Allegations and Probes

Adeyemi has accused Gbajabiamila of demanding a share of the council’s ₦27.3 billion take-off grant and claimed to have paid ₦400 million through an intermediary to secure his appointment.

Gbajabiamila has strongly denied the allegations, describing them as baseless, and has filed a ₦15 billion defamation suit against Adeyemi.

The ICPC’s questioning of the Chief of Staff follows a broader investigation ordered by the President.

The investigation seeks to unravel the circumstances surrounding the council’s creation, its operations, and its budgetary inclusion.

ICPC’s Position and Outlook

In its statement, the ICPC stressed that Gbajabiamila’s appearance was consistent with its mandate to establish the facts of the matter.

The Commission reiterated that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further updates will be communicated as appropriate.

The grilling of the President’s Chief of Staff underscores the seriousness of the PFIPC probe and highlights the government’s resolve to unravel how a disputed entity infiltrated Nigeria’s public administration.

As investigations continue, Nigerians await clarity on the council’s operations and accountability for those found culpable.
