TDThe number one Aspirant for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the forthcoming 2027 election, under the banner of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Comrade Caleb Okeke–Enyobi has posited that one of the things the NDC represents is that it’s a bridge between the old and the new. Addressing Journalists at Akamili, Umudim-Nnewi, Umudim Ward 2, after the official opening ceremony of the Ward office powered by his Media and Events Company, Explore Nnewi Urban, the young, vibrant and erudite Political Activst said:
“One of the things that our Party the NDC represents is that it is a bridge between the old and the new. If you look at those in the forefront, you’ll see that these are people who are not too young and not too old. It’s a bridge for young people to cross over to their rightful place in the service of this country. If you recall back to the 1st Republic, so many of those who served were quite young. Since then, the age has increased drastically, and we now have people in their 70s and 80s running for elective offices. It shouldn’t be so. We have a lot of vibrant young men and women who can actually offer better services to the people. My take is that Nigerians should see the NDC as a solution of last resort. It’s a known truism that people who are part of a problem can not be part of the solution. As far as things are concerned, the NDC political movement is a movement that most Nigerians are confident will salvage this country.
The NDC as a political vehicle can achieve so much of the change that we preach about, especially the National Change. We’ve been talking about National Change because Nigeria’s service culture needs a change. It ought to be more people-centric. When we studied education, we used to say education is Learner-Centred. It is for the learner. In the same token, governance is for the citizens, too. I can extrapolate that point to say that governance is basically for the citizens. We want to see a government that treats it’s Citizens as the Major Stakeholders. In today’s administration, we have Politicians feeding fat, buying yatches and private jets, even when citizens can not afford one litre of fuel at ₦1,400. So the point is that we need to change that service culture.
Secondly, at the Sub-National level, NDC also represents a Pan Nigerian Party. If you see the spread of membership that has been garnered in the past few weeks that it’s been on the National Conscience, you’ll see them coming from the Business Class, the Academic Class, the Political Class and so on. It cuts across all classes. The most fundamental thing is that people are now jettisoning their primary identities. People are now becoming Nigerians before being Igbos,Yorubas, or Hausas. And that is the kind of situation we want to see in Nigeria. Where Nigerians embrace that identity of being Nigerians. That identity of patriotism and nationalism. That is how nations are built. And NDC is out to build a nation out of Nigeria. Thank you.”
