TD Dr. Yunusa Tanko has reportedly stepped down as the coordinator of the Obidient Movement, with Dr Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr Mo, announced as his successor.
The development was disclosed in a statement attributed to Maazi Tochukwu Ezeoke, headmaster of the Village Boys Movement.
Maazi Ezeoke described the change as a new chapter for the movement.
According to Ezeoke, Tanko’s departure from the coordination role follows his reported appointment as Special Adviser on Northern Nigeria to Peter Obi, the former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.
“My brother, Yunusa Tanko, has stepped down as the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement following his appointment as Special Adviser on Northern Nigeria by His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi,” Ezeoke stated.
He added that Dr Moses Paul would take over as the new National Coordinator of the movement.
Moses Paul’s Previous Role
Paul is not new to the Obidient Movement or its political activities.
He served as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairmanship election in February 2026.
The Obidient Movement publicly backed his candidacy during the election.
Before the election, Peter Obi, ADC leaders and the Obidient Movement had strategised around the AMAC election, with Obi announcing his support for Paul.
Paul also participated in an April 2026 meeting between leaders of the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient movements in Abuja.
Tanko’s Leadership of the Movement
Tanko has been a prominent spokesperson and coordinator of the Obidient Movement, particularly in its activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In February 2026, he addressed journalists in Abuja following the AMAC election and announced the movement’s rejection of the declared result.
He alleged irregularities, voter suppression and violence during the poll.
The movement had supported Paul in the election and disputed the declaration of the APC candidate as winner.
A New Leadership Phase
Ezeoke described the leadership change as a transition rather than a departure from the movement’s stated objectives.
According to him, Tanko’s new assignment and Paul’s emergence as coordinator mark a new phase for the organisation while its broader objectives remain unchanged.
“Leadership may change, but the mission remains the same: building a better Nigeria and advancing the cause of good governance,” Ezeoke stated.
The reported development comes as political groups associated with Peter Obi and the broader opposition space continue to reorganise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the announcement cited above is attributed to Ezeoke.
Nigerians are still expecting an independent official statement from Peter Obi or the Obidient Movement confirming the appointment in the sources reviewed.
Until then, reporting still identified Tanko as the movement’s National Coordinator, while Paul was identified as a prominent Obidient figure and former ADC AMAC candidate.
