TD Hon. Francis Chuks Azotani, the member representing Dunukofia Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, has queried the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the publication of his name as a candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Azotani made the demand in a letter addressed to the INEC Chairman in Abuja, dated September 8, 2026, and bearing an INEC receiving stamp dated September 9, 2026.
In the letter titled “Urgent Request for Rectification of Nomination of My Name as a Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” the lawmaker said his name was published on the INEC portal as an NDC candidate for the Dunukofia State Constituency.
He described the publication as the result of a “mix up”, stressing that he remains a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
“I am still a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and have neither defected from the party nor announced any intention to do so on the floor of the legislative chamber,” Azotani stated in the letter.
The lawmaker further reaffirmed his membership of APGA, saying he remains a “bona fide member” of the party.
‘I Am Not Contesting Under NDC’
Azotani also stated categorically that he is not currently contesting the 2027 general election as a candidate of the NDC or any other political party.
“Presently, I am not contesting any election as a Candidate of NDC or any party in the 2027 general election,” he wrote.
He consequently asked INEC to immediately withdraw and remove his name from the list of NDC candidates for the Dunukofia State Constituency and rectify the publication on its portal.
Lawmaker Seeks Urgent Correction
Azotani urged the electoral commission to treat the matter with urgency, stressing that the publication incorrectly associates him with a political party he says he does not belong to.
The letter was signed by Hon. Azotani Chuks, identified in the document as the member representing Dunukofia Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
The development comes as political parties and INEC prepare for the 2027 general elections, with candidate nominations and party affiliations expected to attract heightened scrutiny.
