THIS DAWN — A strongly worded statement has been issued to debunk the widespread false report circulating on social media about the alleged death of His Excellency Chief Dr. William Maduaburochukwu Obiano, former Governor of Anambra State.
The announcement, described as malicious and misleading, has generated concern among Ndi Anambra and the wider public.
According to the notice signed by Hon. Chief Nweke Christian Afamuefuna, the rumor is entirely false, baseless, and crafted by mischief-makers to instill fear and confusion.
He emphasized that Chief Obiano is alive, well, and in good health, dismissing the report as a product of individuals driven by clout chasing, political rivalry, or sheer irresponsibility.
Chief Afamuefuna condemned the fabricators of the rumor, describing their action as shameful, insensitive, and criminal.
He noted that spreading false information about someone’s life or death is not only morally unacceptable but also punishable under Nigerian law.
“Death is not a joke and should never be used as a tool for political or personal gain,” he stated.
In a stern warning, he issued a 24-hour ultimatum to those behind the false publication to retract their statement and tender a public apology to Obiano’s family and the entire Omambala community.
He added that failure to comply would result in immediate legal action, with court proceedings expected to begin as early as next week.
The public has been urged to disregard the fake news, refrain from sharing it, and rely only on verified information from credible sources.
Afamuefuna reaffirmed that Obiano remains a symbol of leadership, strength, and progress in Anambra State and will not have his name tarnished by baseless propaganda.
He concluded by reiterating that Obiano is alive.
