TDA grassroots mobilization group loyal to Peter Obi has taken a swipe at former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, accusing him of hypocrisy in his repeated attacks on Obi’s political journey.
In a post shared by Peter Obi Grassroots Mobilization, the group criticized Fani-Kayode for mocking Obi’s change of political parties while allegedly ignoring his own history of multiple marriages.
“Femi Fani-Kayode, who has been insulting, mocking, and attacking Peter Obi for changing parties.
“Femi himself has repeatedly changed five marriages, and he still changes and will change again.
“Men who have dirt in their eyes but ignore attacking Obi daily,” the statement read.
Context of the Clash
Fani-Kayode, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, has often been vocal in criticizing Obi’s political moves, particularly his defection from the Labour Party amid ongoing litigation.
Obi’s supporters, however, argue that such criticism is misplaced, pointing to Fani-Kayode’s own personal controversies.
The grassroots group framed the attacks as part of a broader campaign to discredit Obi.
Meanwhile, Obi has continued to position himself as a reformist voice in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Implications
The exchange highlights the increasingly personal nature of Nigeria’s political battles, where leaders’ private lives are often dragged into public discourse.
Analysts note that such rhetoric reflects the deep polarization in the country’s political scene, with supporters and opponents trading barbs beyond policy debates.
As Nigeria’s political climate heats up ahead of future elections, clashes between figures like Peter Obi and Femi Fani-Kayode underscore the intensity of grassroots mobilization and the sharp divisions shaping public opinion.
