Lagos, Nigeria — The family of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has suffered another painful loss following the sudden death of his elder sister, Fidelia Ezinwanne Chigbogu, at the age of 61.
A source close to the family confided in This Dawn News that Madam Chigbogu died of cardiovascular arrest, same ailment that killed Ifeanyi Ubah.
Mrs Chigbogu reportedly died on Sunday, October 25, 2026, in Lagos while preparing to attend church.
She had planned to testify about what she regarded as God’s protection after an electrical incident at her home in the service.
Her husband, Chudi Chidinma Chigbogu, described her death as a devastating shock, saying she had shown no obvious signs of illness that morning.
The incident was reported by multiple media outlets, which cited the husband’s account of the events leading to her death.
Fidelia Planned Church Testimony After Electrical Fire
According to Chudi, the family experienced a frightening electrical incident days before the tragedy when their electricity meter reportedly exploded, setting their changeover room ablaze.
The family contacted officials of the electricity distribution company, who reportedly promised to visit on Monday to replace and relocate the meter.
Despite the scare, the family escaped the incident, prompting Fidelia to express gratitude and plan a testimony at church.
“My wife said she will give testimony in church on Sunday and we were preparing for that,” her husband was quoted as saying.
For Fidelia, the planned testimony was an opportunity to share her gratitude after the family’s narrow escape from the fire.
However, she would not make it to the church altar.
Husband Discovers Fidelia Unresponsive
Chudi said his wife woke up that Sunday morning without complaining of a headache or fever.
She bathed and dressed for church while he went downstairs to clean their car.
Fidelia usually left home between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. because of her responsibilities in the church, according to her husband.
When she had not come downstairs by about 8 a.m., he became concerned and asked their son to check on her.
The discovery upstairs plunged the family into distress.
Chudi said his son found his mother unresponsive on the bed. He rushed upstairs and attempted to call her, but she did not respond.
Neighbours were alerted, and the family reportedly took her to several hospitals in a desperate attempt to obtain medical assistance.
According to Chudi, they were told at the facilities that she had already died.
In the meantime, though, the autopsy records are yet to be disclosed to the public.
Remembered as a Peacemaker and Philanthropist
Beyond her relationship with the late senator, Fidelia was remembered by her husband as a family leader who worked to resolve disputes and maintain peace among relatives.
He described her as a natural leader, a philanthropist and an active member of her church.
According to his account, she founded a women’s group and was known for her charitable work. She was also working on an orphanage project before her death.
Chudi said he intended to ensure that the project was completed, keeping alive a cause that had been important to his wife.
“Even though she is no more, I will not let her down. I will make sure that project comes to pass,” he said.
The commitment offers a glimpse into the work Fidelia hoped to pursue beyond her immediate family and church community.
Another Loss for the Ubah Family
Fidelia’s death comes a little over two years after the death of her younger brother, Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, who died in the United Kingdom on July 27, 2024, at the age of 52.
The Senate confirmed the former Anambra South senator’s death in July 2024.
He was a businessman, philanthropist and serving member of the National Assembly at the time of his passing.
According to reports about Fidelia’s family background, their parents had seven children—three sons and four daughters—and she was the second daughter.
She was also one of the trustees of the Ubah family.
Her sudden death is another bereavement for relatives who have already endured the loss of a prominent member of the family.
Fidelia, A Testimony Left Unspoken
Fidelia had reportedly planned to stand before her church congregation and recount how her family survived the electrical fire.
Instead, her death left her husband, children, relatives and church community grieving.
Her husband’s account portrays a woman deeply involved in family life, church activities and charitable work.
An orphanage project is still unfinished at the time of her passing.
While the circumstances of her death remain a source of grief for the family, the medical cause has not been publicly established in the reports reviewed.
For those who knew her, the loss is not only that of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s sister, but also of a wife, mother, peacemaker and philanthropist whose plans for service were cut short.
