THIS DAWN — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued firm directives to Nigeria’s security architecture following the deadly assault on Kasuwan Daji community in Niger State.

In a statement released from the Statehouse on Sunday, the President ordered the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately track down and apprehend the terrorists responsible for the attack.

He emphasized that justice must be swift and uncompromising.

The President also mandated security agencies to prioritize the urgent rescue of abducted victims, many of whom are women and children.

The attack, reportedly carried out by terrorists fleeing from Sokoto and Zamfara after a United States air strike on Christmas Eve, left several villagers dead and communities traumatized.

Tinubu condemned the killings in strong terms, describing them as a direct challenge to Nigeria’s sovereignty and resilience.

In his message, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Niger State.

He assured them that the federal government is committed to restoring peace and security in the affected areas.

“These terrorists have tested the resolve of our country and its people.

“They must, therefore, face the full consequences of their criminal actions,” Tinubu declared.

He vowed that all those who aid or abet the attackers will also be brought to justice.

To prevent further tragedies, Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify operations around vulnerable communities, particularly those near forested regions that have long served as hideouts for criminal groups.

He stressed the importance of proactive surveillance and coordinated military-police action to dismantle terrorist networks.

Beyond security measures, the President called for national unity and resilience.

He cautioned against divisive rhetoric that could weaken Nigeria’s collective resolve, urging citizens to stand together in confronting the menace.

“These times demand our humanity. We must stand together as one people and confront these monsters in unison.

“United, we can and must defeat them, deny them any sanctuary,” he said.

The statement seems to underscore Tinubu’s determination to strengthen Nigeria’s counterterrorism response while reinforcing solidarity among citizens.

It reflects a broader strategy to combine military action with civic unity in reclaiming peace for communities under siege.
