TD President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her historic election as the first elected female President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

Her emergence marks a watershed moment in the legal profession, symbolizing merit, excellence, and gender inclusion.

President’s Message

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya’s victory as a triumph for integrity and professionalism.

He noted that her distinguished career and commitment to justice earned her the confidence of colleagues across Nigeria.

President Tinubu emphasized that her election reflects the growing recognition of women’s invaluable contributions to nation-building and the administration of justice.

He expressed confidence that her leadership will strengthen the NBA by upholding the rule of law and advancing reforms that enhance access to justice for all Nigerians.

“I extend my hearty congratulations to the President-elect of the NBA for her victory.

“As the first elected female president of the Association of Lawyers in Nigeria, Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya has made history.

“She has once again shown that our women can attain any heights in pursuit of excellence in their careers and ambitions, both in the private sector and in public service,” the President said.

Call for Unity and Reform, Commitment to Partnership

Tinubu urged the new NBA President to reach out to other contestants, unify the bar, and address issues that arose during the election.

He encouraged her to collaborate with stakeholders to advance judicial reforms, protect the sanctity of the Constitution, and sustain the legal profession’s role as a vital pillar of democracy.

The President assured Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya of his administration’s commitment to working with the NBA to deepen democratic governance, promote justice, and build a more prosperous and united Nigeria.

Her election, observers note, is not only a personal achievement but also a significant step toward greater gender representation in leadership within Nigeria’s legal community.
