Paul, who shared details of the meeting in a post on X, said he met Obi alongside the Lagos State candidate, Funsho Williams, following the former presidential candidate’s return.
According to him, the engagement centred on the responsibilities of political candidates ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly grassroots mobilisation, constituency engagement, political organisation and protection of votes.
“Mr Peter Obi is back, and the work continues,” Paul wrote, describing the meeting as an opportunity to reflect on the seriousness required of candidates seeking public office.
Obi Emphasises Grassroots Engagement and Preparation
Paul said Obi reminded candidates that seeking public office should not be driven by political glamour, recognition or the excitement surrounding campaigns.
Instead, he reportedly emphasised the need for candidates to understand the concerns of ordinary Nigerians, communicate a clear vision and demonstrate through their conduct that they are prepared to serve.
According to Paul’s account, Obi stressed that candidates must begin their work long before election day by understanding their constituencies, building political structures, identifying credible supporters and developing relationships across communities.
He also highlighted the importance of protecting votes cast during elections, suggesting that political participation must extend beyond campaign activities to include serious election-day organisation.
‘Leadership Is About Going to the People’
The Obidient Movement coordinator said another key message from the meeting was that leadership requires candidates to take their message directly to the people rather than waiting for constituents to approach them.
Paul quoted Obi as emphasising the importance of listening to communities, understanding their everyday realities and earning their trust.
The message, as presented by Paul, places grassroots relationships and public accountability at the centre of the movement’s preparations for the next general election.
Moses Paul Calls for End to Political Distractions
Paul also used the post to urge supporters and political actors to redirect their attention from rumours, speculation and what he described as internal political theatrics.
He criticised what he characterised as efforts to manufacture stories about Obi and identify divisions within the movement, arguing that such distractions should give way to serious preparation for the country’s political future.
He called for greater discipline, strategic thinking and action as political groups prepare for the 2027 elections.
“We have an election to prepare for, a country to reclaim and millions of Nigerians whose hopes must not be disappointed,” Paul wrote.
He concluded with the movement’s familiar slogan: “A New Nigeria is POssible!”
2027 Preparations Gather Momentum
The meeting underscores the growing emphasis on organisation and candidate readiness among political groups positioning themselves for the 2027 general elections.
For the Obidient Movement, the message attributed to Obi points to a strategy built around constituency-level engagement, credible political structures, mobilisation and electoral vigilance.
However, Paul’s account did not disclose the identity of the Lagos State candidate who attended the meeting, the specific decisions reached or whether a formal campaign timetable was discussed.
The development comes as political discussions and alignments continue ahead of the next presidential and legislative elections.
